Does this sound like a good gift?

I want to get one of my guy friends, which is the guy I like, a Christmas gift, but I don't want to it be awkward between us. I don't the gift to be too personal or too impersonal. Since he plays a lot of video games, would it be sensible to get him a gift card to a video game store, and maybe a small ornament or something?
